Sterling Silver Jewlery Is Everywhere

Sterling silver jewlery is quite popular these days. You see it at work, on television, at the movies, in the malls, craft fairs and on the internet.

Why is it so popular? Well for one thing, it is beautiful and shiny and really pretty durable. Secondly you can wear it with anything. A beautiful sterling silver necklace can be the perfect accessory for your newest evening gown, or you can choose a simple silver charm bracelet to go with your favorite pair of jeans.

You most likely have seen the designation of .925 sterling silver. The .925 means that particular piece of jewlery is comprised of 92.5% silver, while the remaining part is copper or another type of alloy. It can't be 100% silver or it would simply be too soft to used as usable jewelry.

Please note, when purchasing sterling silver jewlery, to make certain that the alloy used isn't lead or nickel. Recent health reports have alerted the public to the dangers of lead and nickel.

Another advantage of sterling silver is it much less expensive than gold, often  4 to 5 times less. So, if you are on a budget, silver is an excellent choice. 

Of course you can get sterling silver necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings, etc.... same as you can gold. Probably the most popular sterling silver jewlery are charm bracelets, charms and earrings.

One  unusual thing about sterling silver jewlery is you don't want to buy it and then leave it laying around. You need to wear it or it will tarnish and lose it's shine. That doesn't mean it is ruined, I will tell you how to remedy less than sparkling silver jewlery in just a second.  Even if you wear your favorite silver jewelry every day, it is going to need cleaning. Now don't panic and have visions of working your fingers to the bone, I am talking about a simple polishing cloth that has been emersed in a special jewelry cleaner. A few rub a dub dubs and you are good to go with your piece of jewelry look sparkling new!
