Secrets About Jewellery Findings

Sometimes you will see jewellery findings spelled the one way and sometimes you will see it jewelry findings? What is the difference?  Jewellery findings is the UK spelling and the other is the US spelling.  However, rest assured, everyone is talking about the same thing.  Is is the hardware utilized in making jewellery. Particularly, findings are the things used to hold your chains and gemstones together. They're either made from sterling silver, gold or a base metal plated with a precious metal.

Clasps, earring findings, toggle clasps, silver spacer beads, headpins, and bead caps are all considered findings.

One of the first things beginning jewelry makers ask, "Can I use stainless steel jewellery findings"?  Of course you can, but it depends on what kind of image you are trying to portray.  Either one of someone trying to save money on their creations or someone who doesn't know any better.  A word to the wise, for a few pennies more, get the real deal...you won't regret it!

In addition, it's not uncommon when working with gemstone designs to use valuable metal findings such as sterling silver jewellery findings.

Another well familiar finding is clasps.  Toggle clasps are beautiful, but some fear that the jewelry piece isn't secure with a toggle clasp.  I'll truthfully say, I've never lost any jewellery due to it being a toggle clasp. Talk about dressing up a piece of jewellery, let me tell you, a classy toggle can do just that! However, if you want to step it up a notch from a spring ring, but aren't ready for a toggle clasp, give a lobster clasp a try.  I think you will be pleased with the results.

Essentials Jewellery Findings

Ear Wires and Earring Findings are used extensively when making jewelry. These are the backbone for all the hoop and dangly type earrings you see everywhere. You can of course wear just the hoops by themselves or of course dress them up!

Crimp beads and crimp covers are one of the most used jewellery findings anywhere. Crimp bead and tubes are tiny metal beads that flatten when squeezed with a crimping tool or pliers. You use them with flexible beading wire to glue a clasp.
